Mirwaiz holds series of talks with diplomats
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Moderate Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been holding a series of meetings with diplomats from various countries, seeking to mobilise support of the international community to revive the stalled peace talks.
The Mirwaiz today met British High Commission's First Political Secretary Victoria L Whit Ford and discussed resolution of the Kashmir issue vis-a-vis the India-Pakistan peace talks and inclusion of the Kashmiri in the parleys.
The Hurriyat Chairman was accompanied by his conglomerate colleague Bilal Lone at the meeting held in the High Commission.
The Separatists also met French ambassador to India Dominique Girard and Pakistan High Commissioner Shahid Malik.
The Hurriyat delegates are likely to meet US diplomats on Monday.
''We have briefed the diplomats about the current situation in the state and also discussed the India-Pakistan peace talks, parleys with the Indian leadership as well as the fallout of the situation in Pakistan on Kashmir,'' the Mirwaiz said.
''Since the past six months the peace process has gone off track whether it is India-Pakistan talks or our parleys with the Indian leadership...things have not moved at adequate and desired pace,'' he added.
The Hurriyat Chairman said measures to consolidate the peace initiative taken so far and giving a fillip to them have also been discussed during these meetings.
During the meeting with Mr Malik, a detailed discussion was held on Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) taken so far and enhancing the scope and speed of the talks' process.
Meanwhile, the Mirwaiz has been invited to participate in the Sixth International Meeting of Leaders' Project Conference being held from September 14 to 16, in the US.
The Conference has been organised to discuss political, economic and social issues confronting the world and work out the solutions.
