New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to interact with the Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu and Kerala to find a common ground towards resolving the impasse over the creation of a new railway division at Salem.

Conveying this to a delegation of Kerala MPs, who called on him at his office in the Parliament House, Dr Singh said the stand of the Centre had been that the Salem Division issue should be settled amicably through discussion.

Besides the Kerala MPs belonging to all the political parties, the delegation also had CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechury.

Railway Minister Lalu Prasad yesterday had a round of discussion with the Kerala MPs on the same issue, and assured them that no date for the inauguration of the Salem division had been fixed so far.

Kerala has been opposing the creation of Salem division with a majority portion of the existing Palakkad division in the state.

The Kerala delegation also discussed the issues relating to railway development in Kerala.

They complained to the Prime Minister that the state had been neglected in the matter of railway development.
