Indian delegation to visit UK to study sports strategy

Patiala, Sept 7 (UNI) A three-member Indian delegation will be visiting the United Kingdom from September 9 to 15 to study how UK has developed a programme to improve academic achievement through sports and to work out a successful model for its implementation in India.

The three-member delegation comprised of Mr Injeti Srinivas, Joint Secretary (sports), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mr L S Ranawat, Executive Director of the NIS and Maj Gen S N Mukherjee, will explore the methodology and issues faced by the United Kingdom in developing a national physical education and school sports strategy.

The team will also visit the local sports governing bodies, sports clubs, education authorities, local NGOs, sports schools and colleges to study how sports, education, local government and NGOs are inter-relate in UK for a successful youth development programme.

Earlier, a sports delegation from UK had visited India in July this year in this context.

The Indian delegation's programme has been sponsored by the British High Commission in New Delhi under the Cultural Exchange Programme.

The British Council in India, along with UK Sports and Youth Sports Trust, is working on developing a sports strategy, through upgradation of physical education curriculum which could be made compulsory for all the schools in India.
