IMA appeals to doctors to maintain good relations with people
Imphal, Sep 7 (UNI) The Indian Medical Association(IMA), Manipur has noted with concern the distrust between the people and those in the health services.
IMA Joint Secretary, Dr Vivekananda said it was decided to make an appeal after convening a meeting of the IMA. He said the meeting decided to call all its members to live up to the image of a doctor as a person of impeccable integrity and character.
The doctors were appealed to inform the patients and their family members about the condition of the patient so that there was no problem. An informed consent should also be taken, he said.
He also appealed to the people not to jump to any hasty and unsubstantiated conclusion of negligence on the part of a doctor and take the law in their hands.
''Of late frequent clashes have been reported between doctors and patient parties over alleged negligence by doctors which led to the death of patients,'' Dr Vivekananda said.
He also appealed to the administration to upgrade facilities and equipment in health centres and hospitals and assess public opinion on private practice in the state.
