HC issues notice to Delhi Police, Delhi Govt over school 'sting'

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today sought explanation from the Delhi Government and the Delhi Police over the 'sting operation' carried out by a private channel, depicting a city government school teacher running a prostitution racket.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjive Khanna issued notices to the Delhi Government and the Delhi Police, returnable by September 10, asking them to come up with detailed explanation over the issue.

The court also directed the police to seize all edited as well as unedited tapes of the sting operation.

The court took suo motu congnizance of media report that the entire operation was carried out with malafide intentions and the journalists involved had vested interest.

Senior lawyer and President of Delhi High Court Bar Association A S Chandhok has been appointed amicus curiae to assist the court in ascertaining the facts about the incident.

The court expressed its concern over the way sting operations were being carried out.

The reporter Prakash Singh of 'Live India' channel was arrested, a day after the girl who posed as a victim of the racket, was nabbed.

The girl has been charged with cheating, fabrication of evidence and criminal conspiracy, police said.
