HC dismisses SP leader's writ seeking stay on arrest
Allahabad, Sep 7 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today dismissed a writ petition filed by Samajwadi Party (SP) city president Abdul Salman, who is accused of ransacking the Kareli Police Station here on August 31, which resulted in curfew at five areas of the city.
A bench comprising Justices S Harkauli and K N Ojha dismissed the writ petition of the SP leader, who had moved the HC, seeking stay on his arrest.
On August 31, an unruly mob had resorted to stone pelting after rumour had gripped Kaladanda area that some pages of a holy book were set on fire.
Thousands of people had taken to streets, following which curfew was clamped in Kareli, Atarsuia, Shahganj, Khuldabad, Kotwali and Rajroop police outposts of the Dhoomanganj police station.
The mob had gheraoed the Kareli police station and raised slogans. Three youth were wounded after police opened fire and lobbed tear gas.
Later, an FIR was lodged against Mr Yadav and several others at the Kareli police station.
