Gurdwara incharge, 4 others injured in clash

Amritsar, Sep 7 (UNI) Five people including the incharge of a gurdwara were injured when they were attacked by a rival group in Chabal town of Tarn Taran district this afternoon, police here said.

The injured included Baba Sulkhan Singh, who runs Gurdwara Santsar in Panjwar village and four of his followers. The Baba suffered a gun shot injury while the rest suffered injuries inflicted by sharp edged weapons.

According to the police, the Baba and his followers were attacked by members of the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee led by its head Manjit Singh Dhoolka. They snatched a gun from the bodyguard of the Baba and opened fire.

The shot hit Sulkhan Singh on the right shoulder and as he fell to the ground, Manjit Singh and his supporters attacked the Baba's followers with swords, injuring four of them. All the injured were admitted to a private hospital here.

The police has registered a case against Manjit Singh and his supporters. Investigations by the police revealed that members of the Committee had alleged that the Baba was a tantrik and they had asked him to vacate the Gurdwara.

In a similar incident last week, two people were killed and one injured in a clash between two groups following a dispute over the management of a gurdwara in Issapur village in Amritsar district.
