GSI team to study ground fissures in Bundelkhand: Sibal

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Government has constituted a three-member team of scientists from Geological Survey of India (GSI) to study the ground fissures in Bundelkhand area of Uttar Pradesh and also in Badrinath district of Uttarakhand.

Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the team from GSI's Lucknow office had left for the affected areas on September 5.

He said ground fissures have developed in some areas in Bundelkhand, particularly in Hamirpur District of Uttar Pradesh and in Badrinath area of Uttarakhand.

The fissures in Mauda tehsil of Hamirpur district is around 800 m in length and 60 cm wide, he said. Cracks have also been reported from Neelkanth Parvat in Badrinath area, he added.
