Govt to set up institute to study impact of climate change
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Government would set up an institute to study the impact of global warming/climatic changes, among other environment issues.
The Ministry of Earth Sciences has decided to launch a coordinated research programme on climate change to study all associated science aspects of the issue viz. Carbon and Nitrogen cycles; Asian Brown Cloud (ABC).
The decision was taken after it had held a brainstorming session with experts, representatives of various ministries concerned, academic and scientific institutions and NGOs on June 1, Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Kapil Sibal told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.
As part of climate change programme, there is a proposal for the establishment of a dedicated Centre to undertake research on Science aspects of climate change at Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, he said.
