'Fatwa' pronounces hundreds of marriages illegitimate
Sultanpur, Sep 7 (UNI) A 'fatwa' (edict) by a Bareilly seminary pronouncing hundreds of marriages illegitimate has put the affected families and married couples here in a quandary.
Almost 80 per cent Muslims in the Paanch Piran village are remarrying in mosques for atonement.
They had attended the 'namaz-e-zanana' read by a non-Imam during the burial ceremony of Junaid Aabdin 20 days ago.
The deceased's son had requested Pir Abdul Hakim Qadri to administer 'namaz-e-zanana' instead of village Imam Maulana Aas Mohd.
Maulana Mahmud, who runs a madarssa in the village, had objected to Maulana Aas Mohd attending a 'namaz-e-zanana' administered by a non-Imam.
He later approached the Bareilly-based seminary and managed to get a 'fatwa' issued that the marriages of all those Muslims, who who had attended the 'namaz-e-zanana' administered by a non-Imam stood void.
