Facility to train young ortho surgeons established at SRU
Chennai, Sep 7 (UNI) An Indo-European Arthroscopy-Arthroplasty Foundation (IEAAF) was today set up at Sri Ramachandra University (SRU) at Porur, near here, to provide international level facilities for training young orthopedic surgeons.
Inaugurating the facility, Prof Alex Fievez, renowned sports medicine surgeon from the Netherlands, said with a large network in Europe and the excellent cadaver, research and medical facilities at SRU, it would be possible to provide the latest in healthcare and teaching methods to many patients and students.
Prof S P Thiagarajan, Chief Advisor and Director, Research, SRU, said ''today's oprthopedic research has several innovative approaches in the areas of fixation and repair of fractured bones and therapies for osteoarthritis and the foundation would focus on bio-compatibility and tissue regeneration and cell-based technology development.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof S Arumugam, Executive President of the Foundation and Head of the Arthroscopy and Sports Medicine department said the foundation would conduct symposiums every six months, consisting of lectures and live surgical demonstration of the arthroplasty technolgies by the European facilities.
The foundation would also offer a four week fellowship at leading centres in Arthroscopy in Europe to young orthopedic surgeons, he added.
