Ahmedabad, Sep 7 (UNI) The Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) has directed the Chief Electrical Inspectorate and four state-owned distribution companies to study the system jointly with the petitioners by implementing Electricity Rule 33 of the Indian Electricity Rules (IER).

GERC has also directed that this issue be resolved by implementing Rule 33 of Indian Electricity Rules 1956 which mandates the provision of separate earth terminals at the premises of residential and commercial consumers, and also submit an ''action taken report'' (ATR) to the Commission before October 15, 2007.

The petition was filed by Consumer Education and Research Society (CERS), Ahmedabad, on November last year before the GERC against the four State-owned distribution companies and the CEI. The petition has charged the Discoms and the CEI with violation of Electricity Rule 33.
