BSF has good record in human rights conservation: Mitra

Tekanpur, MP, Sep 7 (UNI) Border Security Force Director General A K Mitra today said the BSF had a good record in the conservation of human rights.

Talking to reporters after taking salute of passing out parade of BSF Assistant Commandants, Mr Mitra said human rights along with law would be taught to BSF personnel to avoid human rights violations.

After the Human Rights Act was implemented, some complaints were received from Kashmir. However, the BSF took appropriate action and the record improved.

On being asked about living with family in the border region, he said residence could not be provided on borders areas because the BSF personnel would feel insecure.

The BSF was providing accommodation to its personnel at places where health and education facilities were available, he added.

On jawans being forced to live in traditional barracks, which were destroyed during storms, at several outposts, he said a contract had been awarded to an Israeli company to construct light barracks.

Mr Mitra said the condition of the Forward Defender Locality was also pathetic. However, improvement work was being carried out with the help of the India-Tibet border Police (ITBP).
