Hyderabad, Sep 7 (UNI) Close on the heels of the successful launching of the second phase of the INDIRAMMA scheme for the poor people, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today inaugurated ''Rajiv Swagruha scheme'' for the middle class people at Pocharam on the city outskirts.

Speaking after laying down the foundation stone for a township with all basic amenities, including solar water heaters and street lights powered by solar panels, he noted that a decent housing was increasingly becoming unaffordable to middle class people in cities and towns.

Forming a Rajiv Swagruha Corporation to exclusively construct apartments for middle income groups, the Chief Minister said double bedroom and single bedroom flats would be made available to these sections of people at 25 per cent less cost than the market price.

Stating that the construction of dwellings would be completed within a year, Dr Reddy said the Congress government was committed to ensure houses to all poor people by 2009.

Housing Minister B Satyanarayana said altogether 1.75 lakh housing units would be constructed under the Rajiv Swagruha scheme.

As many as 3000 acres of land had been acquired in cities and towns for the purpose, he added.
