Aggrieved by alcoholic spouse, woman kills 2 daughters

Pratapgarh, Sep 7 (UNI) Peeved by an alcoholic husband, a housewife killed her two minor daughters by pushing them into Sharda Sahayak Canal here.

Later, she made an abortive bid to commit suicide by jumping in the canal, according to police today.

Sumitra (27) pushed her two daughters Pinki (8) and Rinki (6) in the canal at Mandhata late last evening, before jumping into the canal.

While divers managed to save Sumitra, the two girls drowned in the deep waters.

Police said Sumitra's husband Kanhaiyya was an alcoholic and the couple used to fight daily forcing her to take such drastic step.

Efforts were underway to fish out the bodies.
