Adhikari and Mallika Sub-Junior Boys and Girls singles champs
Kochi, Sep 7 (UNI) Fourth seed Arnab Adhikari (NB) and top seed Mallika B (MAH) clinched the Sub-Junior Boys and Girls singles titles respectively at the OSEL National Ranking Table Tennis Championship (South Zone) at the Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here.
In the finals, Adhikari outclassed Devdatta Fadanovi (MAH) in four games to one; 12-10, 7-11, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9.
In the semifinals, Adhikari overcame a stiff challenge from no 1 Avik Das (NB) 11-9, 11-8, 11-9, 12-14, 6-11, 11-5.
In the other spirited semifinal, Fadanovi fought hard to defeat Aditya Moitra (WB) in four games to three, 11-4, 8-11, 11-5, 9-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-3.
In the Sub-Junior Girls singles, Mallika prevailed over second seed Charvi R Kawle (MAH) in straight games 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 in the finals.
In the Men's singles, top seed and national champion Sharath Kamal (PSPB) defeated Jubin Kumar ( PSPBA) 11-15, 11-8, 11-4, 11-8 to enter the semi-finals.
Second seed Subhajit Saha (RSPB) also entered the semis by triumphing over Syanpaul Roy (RSPB) 11-7, 13-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-9.
The other two players who have advanced to the semis are eleventh seed Amal Raj and Sanil Shetty (MAH).
The Women's singles saw a major upset when third seed Mantu Ghosh (PSPB) was defeated by 14th seed Divya Deshpande (MAH) with the scoreline reading 2-11, 11-8, 8-11, 8-11, 15-13, 13-15 in the pre-quarter finals.
In the other pre-quarter final matches, top seed Poulomi Ghatak (PSPB) sailed to the quarters after defeating Anandita Chakraborty (RSPB) 11-4, 11-9, 11-7, 16-14, 11-8.
Foruth seed Mouma Das (PSPB) and 11th seed N R Indu (TN) have also advanced to the quarters.
In the Youth Boys and Youth Girls singles, all the top three seeds have moved to the quarters of the competition.
