About 26 per cent polling in DUSU elections
New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) The Delhi University Students' Union (DUSU) elections, polling for which was held today, registered about 26 per cent voter turnout.
The results of the election, votes for which were cast by electronic voting machines, will be declared tomorrow morning, Proctor and Chief Election Officer Gurmeet Singh said.
The Polling passed off peacefully without any untoward incident, he added. The total number of voters is about 70,000.
Expressing disappointment over the low voter turnout, Prof Singh said as many as 13 colleges had not held elections and that is why the students were not interested in the union polls.
''It is disappointing that students did not turnup in large numbers. This is a democratic exercise...,'' he added.
Voting for regular students was held from 0830 hrs to 1130 hrs and, for students attending evening classes for a few hours from 1600 hrs.
Prof Singh said polling in the evening phase was very low compared to that in the morning.
Chemistry professor J M Khurana officiated as the Chief Returning Officer and Rajesh Tandon of the Botany Department as the Additional Returning Officer.
