No new infrastructural works at Sherthang mart for Nathu La trade

Gangtok, Sep 6 (UNI) State Industries Minister R B Subba today said the Sikkim government has not bought any land in Siliguri for the Nathu La trade and no funds have yet been allocated for the purpose.

Replying to a query on the first day of the Assembly session, Mr Subba also said no new infrastructural works have started at Sherathang Trade Mart presently. Central Government had spent Rs 5.10 crore for the construction of the mart, he said.

Sikkim Legislative Assembly member B M Ramudamu had asked the questions regarding the infrastructure of the Nathu La trade.

Commenting on the minister's reply, Mr Ramudamu said that the land requirement for land in Siliguri had been discussed in the previous sessions of Assembly. Even the Chief Minister had said about the need for land, he said.

Nathu La border trade had begun from May 1 for this year which is the second year since its reopening on July 6 last year.
