Moderate showers lash Delhi, more rains likely in next few days
New Delhi, Sep 6 (UNI) Moderate to heavy showers lashed Delhi this afternoon bringing some coolness to the weather and providing Delhiites tremendous relief from the acutely hot and humid conditions in the last couple of days, The showers, which hit the capital city at around noon, plummetted mercury by several degrees Celsius, offering much respite from the acutely hot and humid conditions yesterday which left Delhiites sweltering.
Although just 0.5 mm of rainfall was recorded till 1430 hours, the rains, coupled with the strong Westerly winds, led to a drop in day temperature to 32 degrees, from a high of 36.2 degrees yesterday.
Earlier, a heavily overcast sky and the Westerlies led to a drop in minimum temperature to 26.5 degrees, from 28.2 degrees C yesterday despite the humidity levels hovering at 83 per cent.
Weatherman attribute the sudden build up of heavy clouds this morning and consequent rainfall to the influence of a fresh Westerly trough in the region.
They have forecast some more spells of heavy rainfall in Delhi and other parts of Northwest India in the next two to three days under the influence of the trough.
''In association with the westerly trough, fairly widespread rainfall is likely over Northwest India with possibility of isolated heavy falls over western Himalayan region during next 2-3 days,'' the Met office said.
The Met office has forecast a generally cloudy sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours with one or two spells of rain and thundershowers.
