ITUC concerned over increasing labour rights violations
Bangalore, Sep 6 (UNI) Expressing concern over the failure of globalisation in benefitting the working class, International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) General Secretary Guy Ryder today alleged that the situation has worsened in terms of violation of their rights.
Mr Ryder, who was here to attend a two-day founding-conference of the ITUC-Asia Pacific, which concluded here today, told newspersons that the quantum of National Income of various countries in the globalised economy had raised manifold while its share towards the working class had ''alarmingly dwindled.'' ''The returns to the working class from the national income was the lowest and as below as what they were getting during 1930's'' he added.
Mr Ryder said in the post-globalisation era, unemployment was increasing while the returns of the workforce was not sufficient to have a decent living for them.
''The process of structural adjustment had been causing a surge in informal economy affecting the working conditions including wages, benefits and working hours,'' he added.
He expressed regret over many countries not recognising the conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) that propogate labour rights including protection against exploitations.
