Cabinet proposes inclusion of Wakf property as govt property
Mumbai, Sep 6 (UNI) Following allegations of Rs 10,000 crore corruption in Wakf property deals in Maharashtra, the state government today proposed to include Wakf property as government property.
The decision to this effect was taken during the Cabinet meeting held here this afternoon. A Bill to this effect will be tabled in the state legislature during the Winter Session.
The amendment will enable the government to evict encroachers on the Wakf property. The Wakf law does not have clear regulations against such encroachers.
The Union Government had directed the state government to include the Wakf property as government property. Rajasthan and Karnataka governments have already heeded the directions. The Wakf Board has also demanded a similar amendment.
Maharashtra has Wakf property work Rs 80,000 crore.
