Cabinet approves extradition treaty between India and Mexican states
New Delhi, Sept 6 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing the extradition treaty between India and Mexican states and also ratification for the same.
The treaty would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists and other criminals from and to the United Mexican States, Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
Other decisions that were taken in the cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here this evening included signing of an agreement between India and Egypt on foreign convicted prisoners to be transferred to their home countries.
The decision would enable the prisoners to be near their families and would help in the process of their social rehabilitation.
The cabinet also gave its approval for signing a treaty between India and Mexican states on mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, which aims at providing an effective bilateral framework in matters of investigation, prosecution and suppression of crime through cooperation and mutual legal assistance in criminal matters.
Approval was also given to the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between India and Italy on February 15, 2007 on Indo-Italian renewable energy cooperation.
The MoU will establish new and renewable energy cooperation between Italian and Indian entities with the aim of developing new and renewable energy technologies.
