Savitri finds her worthy tusker in Satyaban, but not for long
Bankura, Sep 5 (UNI) Elephants too find true love, even if one was bred in captivity and the another born wild. Such is the story of Savitri and Satyaban.
Two elephants - Savitri and Satyaban, found loitering in the district, have been renamed as 'Radha' and 'Krisnha' on the occasion of Janmashtami by villagers of Bhavanipur here.
The female elephant Savitri and tusker Satyaban have both come from the Maliara Forest Range at Raniganj of Gangajalghanti.
However, the duo will soon have to part as the female elephant, which was bred in captivity will not be able to survive in the wild and will return to circus where it belongs.
Savitri was among the three female elephants, who had been lured out of the circus camp by the tusker.
Range Officer Falguni Mallick, who had killed many a rogue elephant, told UNI yesterday, ''The duo will be separated soon, but before that they may have to encounter a herd of 40 elephants, who had entered the district from Jharkhand's Dalma range and are on their way towards the pair.'' Forest personnel in Bankura district were also keeping a close watch on the movement of the herd, who were presently staying at Sonamukhi. On their way, the herd had damaged many mud houses and standing crops, an official of forest range said here.
