RBI to form task force for co-operative banks in Assam

Mumbai, Sep 4 (UNI) Reserve Bank of India will constitute a state-level Task Force on Urban Co-operative Banks (TAFCUB) for Assam.

RBI signed a memorandum of understanding with Assam Government today in this regard. The TAFCUB will be chaired by the regional director for Assam and other north eastern states, while the registrar of co-operative societies Assam will be the co-chairman.

As a part of its developmental role, RBI would also be assessing the training computerization needs of the urban co-operatives banks in Assam with the objective of upgrading their human resource skills to improve their operational efficiency.

In the mid-term review of annual policy announced in October 2004, RBI had announced that a vision document of urban co-operative banks would be prepared.

As the urban co-operative banks are subject to dual control by the RBI and the state government, it required signing of an MoU between the two parties. Similar MoUs have been signed with the governments of twelve other states.
