Rains lash isolated places in Punjab, Haryana
Chandigarh, Sep 5 (UNI) Light to moderate rain was witnessed at isolated places in Punjab and Haryana and many areas in Himachal Pradesh since last night.
The mercury, however, stayed one degree to three degrees celsius above normal at most places in the plains with the sun peeping through the dark monsoon clouds at intervals.
Monsoon rain lashed certain areas of Punjab with Shahpur Kandi recording 14.6 mm rainfall overnight. Madopur, near Pathankot, measured 3.0 mm and Ranjit Sagar Dam site 2.2 mm downpour. The holy city of Amritsar also had rainfall.
In Haryana, where the rains eluded most areas, Kalka had a moderate rain, recording 14.0 mm till this morning.
Light to moderate rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including Kangra, Kullu, Mandi and Shimla districts, while higher reaches in tribal Kinnaur district experienced snowfall.
Dharamshala in Kangra district was the wettest place in the state, recording 50.8 mm rain, followed by Mehere in Hamirpur district registering 26 mm, Gohar in Mandi district 24 mm, Kahu in Bilaspur district 17 mm rain and Nahan in Sirmaur district 11.1 mm rainfall.
Sundernagar, Pandoh, Berthin, Bhang-Manali, Dhundi and Kalpa also received rain.
Shimla and its adjoining areas also had few spells of rain since last night with the capital town recording 4.5 mm till this morning.
The town again had showers during the day.
Humid weather conditions prevailed in Chandigarh and its adjoining areas, which remained enveloped in monsoon clouds. The city, which had trace rainfall overnight, experienced showers for a brief period this afternoon. The city recorded the maximum humidity at 88 per cent and the minimum at 62 per cent.
The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Punjab and light to moderate rain or thundershowers at isolated places in Haryana during the next 24 hours.
