Quick action helped douse Bokaro CR Mill fire
New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Prompt action by the Fire Services Department of SAIL's Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL) prevented spread of a fire that broke out in the emulsion basement of Tandem Mill-1 of BSL's Cold Rolling Mill on Sunday morning and helped save major machinery and equipment.
According to a SAIL statement issued here today, the Tandem Mill was put into operation by the evening of September 4, 2007.
Acting with alacrity and efficiency, the fire-fighting team extinguished the fire, which had started a little before 5 am, within four hours using 11 fire tenders. Vigorous efforts were made by the Bokaro collective to prevent the fire from spreading to the surrounding areas, including oil cellars on either side of the emulsion basement, cable galleries, hydraulic station, etc. The damage to the Mill has been minimal.
