Penguin celebrates 20 years in India with launch of 'spl editions'

New Delhi, Sept 5 (UNI) Marking 20 years of publishing in the country, 'Penguin India' which associates its lineage with the history of contemporary India, today released a 'set of five' special commemoratiuve editions on 'The Fiction Collection' and 'The Non-fiction Collection' covering two decades in India.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Executive, Pearson (Penguin's parent company) Marjorie Scardino said India was an important destination for her company because of the numerous success stories it has written in a short span of just two decades.

''My publishing house had great interest in India's vast potential and celebrating the 20th anniversary of its existence here is a very pleasant occasion.'' The specially chosen representative pieces from the wealth of Penguin India's book publishing over the last 20 years are contained in the special editions, she informed.

Penguin Worldwide Chairman John Makinson said besides publishing over 60 titles in Hindi, Marathi and Urdu, Penguin India would soon begin publishing in Malayalam from November this year.

''We also expect to become the first Indian publishing company to reach the landmark Rs 100 crore business in this anniversary year.'' Its a matter of pride that our authors have won virtually every major literary prize, he said adding that with India being the fastest growing English Language publishing market in the world, Penguin India remained committed to bringing the best in Indian writing to readers around the world.

With 20 events lined up for the year-long celebrations to mark '20 years in India' beginning October 27 (the anniversary day), 'Penguin India' would also launch a series of 20 short books titled 'Indian Essentials' and a new-look website that would drive its 'read more' campaign.
