Pariyaram election case deferred for tomorrow

Kochi, Sep 5 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today deferred for tomorrow, the petition filed by former state minister M V Raghavan, challenging the notification to conduct elections to the Pariyaram Hospital Cooperative Society on September 23 at Cheruthazham school at Kannur.

Justice K M Joseph adjourned the matter to give time to the government counsel to seek instructions.

Mr Raghavan, a former chairman of the Kerala State Cooperative Hospital complex at Pariyaram, contended that the school was situated at a remote place with no bus service or any other convenient form of conveyance.

This had been purposefully fixed to ensure that voters from all parts of the state were not able to reach the venue, he alleged in his petition.

The petitioner has sought a direction to the administrator of the society to pass a fresh resolution by fixing the venue either at Thiruvananthapuram or Thrissur The election was declared on the basis of a direction of the Supreme Court on August 17, 2007.

The term of the earlier board expired on July 11, 2007.
