Over 200 'Govindas' injured during 'Dahi Handi' celebrations

Mumbai, Sep 5 (UNI) Over 200 ''Govindas'', who were injured during the ''Dahi Handi'' celebrations on the occasion of Gokulashtami yesterday, have been admitted to various civic hospitals here.

King Edward Memorial (KEM) hospital dean Y C Yeolekar told mediapersons here today that 97 of them have suffered minor fractures. The condition of eleven is reported to be serious.

According to civic health officials, KEM hospital has admitted 108 patients, Sion 65, Nair 15 and Bhagwati 27 for various injuries since yesterday.

Meanwhile, Sachin Padwal, a committee member of Bal Vikas Mandal Lower Parel, said, ''The insurance companies had made tall claims last year regarding the Govindas being insured, but they have not yet visited any of the mandals or any of the injured.'' Last year, many insurance companies had met the committee members, but this year, they have not come forward, regretted many of the ''mandal'' members.

Janardan Babar, who fell from the third tier of a human pyramid, has been admitted to the KEM hospital and has been paralysed on one side, said doctors.
