Opp demandS scrapping of Vedant University project
Puri, Sep 5 (UNI) Five opposition political parties have demanded scrapping of the Vedanta University Project proposed to be set up in the outskirts of the city.
Hundreds of activists of CPI, CPIM, Forward Block, Congress and Orissa Gana Parishad, a regional political party, yesterday took out a protest rally through the thorough fares of the town and courted arrest.
Before courting arrest they handed over a memorandum to the district administration demanding scrapping of the project.
They alleged that the only purpose of the project was to grab the valuable land and vowed not to allow the administration to acquire land in the area for the university.
The rally crossed through the main thoroughfares of the city and later culminated into a public meeting in front of the district collectors office.
Among others Umaballav Rath of Congress, Pradipta Mohanty of CPI, Raboti Mahapatra of CPM, Aditya Hruday Mishra of OGP addressed the meeting.
