Elephant found dead on river bank in Jalpaiguri
Jalpaiguri, Sep 5: A 10-year-old elephant was today found dead on the bank of river Diana in Diana Central Compartment area in the district.
Working District Forest Officer Kalyan Das said the elephant could have been swept ashore by the river from the dense forest area lining the river bank, namely Garumara, Shapramari and Lankapara among others.
''A tooth of the dead elephant was found missing,'' the DFO added.
Official sources have said that the extraction of the tooth may have been the reason for the elephant's death.
The DFO have said that further investigation was on to find the culprits.
