Nedumaran to launch agitation for Lankan Tamils

Tiruchirapalli, Sep 5 (UNI) Members of various Tamils organisations and Tamil Eelam Supporters Coordination Committee, led by Tamilar Desiya Iyakkam Founder-President P Nedumaran, will begin an agitation on September 7 in support of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Talking to newspersons here, Tiruchirapalli Tamilar Desiya Iyakkam District President Pulivalam Chola Rajan and Tamil Desiya Poduudamai Katchi General Secretary P Maniarasan said the participants would reach Nagapatinam via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam and Mayiladuthurai on September 11.

On September 12, they would leave for Jaffna by boats carrying food and medicines worth about Rs one crore, he said.

Though they attempted several times to send the consignment to Jaffna through the Indian Red Cross Society, they were asked to seek the Centre's permission.

It was very unfortunate the Tamil Nadu Government was maintaining silence over the burning issue, they said and added they would defy any prohibitory order in the course of the agitation.
