Montek for differential salary concept for teachers
Shimla, Sept 5 (UNI) Planning Commission's Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia today said the Commission would discuss the issue of differential salary concept for those teaching in premier educational institutes of the country.
''In the IITs, 30 per cent faculty positions are vacant. The students who pass out from these institutes do not want to come back for the teaching assignment as they are getting very high salary package in the private sector. We need to address this problem,'' he said while delievering the 12th Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan Memorial Lecture at the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies (IIAS) here.
Mr Ahluwalia said the governance system in universities should be improved for quality education. He stressed on the need for setting up of universities in private sector.
On high cost of education at higher level, he said the government could work out the system of having reasonable fees and scholarship for the meritorious students.
