Mehbooba asks PDP cadres to gear up for polls in J&K

Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today asked her cadres to vigorously disseminate the party's pro-people policies and programmes at the grassroots level in the run up to the next Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

''As the PDP has set new standards of ethical politics, the responsibilities of its cadres have also grown manifold,'' she said.

Addressing a meeting of PDP office-bearers here, Ms Mufti said given its unwavering stance on the issues concerning the urges and aspirations of the masses, the people's expectations with the party have grown manifold.

''These growing expectations have put more responsibility on our shoulders and we will have to justify our representation by working tirelessly for the betterment of the people,'' she added.

The PDP chief told her party functionaries to highlight the political, economic, social and development concerns of the masses at the appropriate forums to seek redressal.

The PDP has made utmost efforts to implement its programmes and policies, both on the political and economic fronts, in letter and spirit, she added.

On the political front, Ms Mufti said the PDP created an environment for reconciliation and revival of democratic institutions in the state to facilitate peaceful resolution of the contentious Kashmir issue.

On the development front, she said historic opening of cross-LoC links, revival of Mughal Road, setting up of new universities and colleges, upgrade of health sector, extension of cellular service and formulating a transparent recruitment policy were some of the major initiatives of the PDP-led coalition government in the state.

Ms Mufti asked the party office-bearers to remain cautious of the machinations of certain quarters that have got unnerved by the growing popularity of the PDP and have started conspiring to weaken it using, both overt and covert means.

''You have to be highly vigilant as our enemies have ganged up to weaken us,'' she told the office-bearers.

The PDP president said the party's biggest strength was its cadres and the common masses and they will not allow the designs of the enemies to succeed.
