Meghalaya moots "Operation Sustainability" in Edu dept
Shillong, Sept 5 (UNI) The Meghalaya government has decided to launch ''Operation Sustainability'' with the agriculture department and its allied sectors to provide vocational training in residential schools of the state.
''Operation Sustainability'', is aimed at offering professional courses to school students in the rural areas of the state- to train students with modern technologies, regenerate rural economy, and curb rural-to-urban migration, Higher and Technical Education Minister Robert G Lyngdoh said at the Teachers' Day celebration here today.
He said the departments of Agriculture, Horticulture, Fisheries, Animal and Husbandry and Industries will be linked with the residential schools to provide professional courses to the students.
The proposed government scheme, Mr Lyngdoh said, would benefit the students, especially in the rural areas of the state, would help contain rural-to-urban migration in search of job opportunities.
Chief Minister D D Lapang, who awarded 30 teachers from various schools of the state, said the government wanted to see more of vocational institutions in the state to solve unemployment problem in the state.
He also said the government would look into the various demands of the teachers.
