Mathura, Sep 5 (UNI) Lord Krishna was 'born' amid religious fervour and traditional enthusiasm with chants of 'Nand Ke Anand Bhayo Jai Kanhaiyya Lal Ki' ranting the air in this ancient temple city.

The entire atmosphere submerged in the worship of Lord Krishna, fondly known as 'Bal Gopal' amid holy chants of 'Jai Shri Krishna'' and 'Govinda Ala Re' at Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhana and Baldeo pilgrimage centres.

The ancient Keshav Dev temple built on the mythical site of the Lord's supposed birth place (an underground prison) received lakhs of visitors on Janamashtami.

'Krishna Bhakti' overwhelmed the devout, saints and sages of Gaudiya Mutt in Radha Kund, when famous Ramacharya and Padmasri Ram Swaroop Verma spelled magic of his vocal chord with 'Jasoda Ayo Lalna....Mai Vedan Suno Ayi'.

The Lord was born at mid-night amid 'puja and archana' where 'Bal Gopal' was bathed in milk, ghee, yoghurt, honey and gangajal.

The entire atmosphere turned divine, when pilgrims showered rose petals from second floor of the Keshav Dev Temple on the 'newly born'.

A confluence of faith, devotion and spiritual songs was witnessed at the Lord's birth place.

Prominent temples in Mathura, Vrindavan, Govardhan, Gokul, Baldeo and Barsana celebrated the festival with 'Raslila'. The temples were tastefully adorned and lighted for the midnight 'puja' and 'Jhulanotsava', the main centre of attraction.

Lakhs of devotees converged for the 'darshans' of 'Makhan Chor', who was beautifully adorned in colourful clothes and bijou jewellery.

'Shri Krishna Jayanti' is always a two-day affair in Mathura, which comprises religious rituals and programmes on the first day and 'latteh ka mela' (a pot filled with yoghurt is hung at a height of about 40 feet and youths in group try to break it), where the winner party is rewarded.

Reverred temples like Banke Bihari, Radha Balabha, Radha Damodar, Dwarkadheesh, Sri Krishna Janamsthan and others celebrated the second day of 'janamashtami' today with 'Dadhikana' (turmeric is mixed in yoghurt and is sprinkled over the devotees).
