Lok Sabha pays tributes to Radhakrishnan, teaching fraternity

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) The Lok Sabha paid tributes to late President Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary with Speaker Somnath Chatterjee using the occasion to ask the members to be ''obedient students'' on Teacher's Day today.

''I only hope, at least today, on Teacher's Day, you will listen to the Headmaster,'' Mr Chatterjee said amid loud laughter.

Paying tributes to the teaching fraternity as well, Mr Chatterjee said: ''Traditionally, teachers have enjoyed the highest regard and respect in our society for their selfless and dedicated services to the nation.'' ''Let us on this day pay tributes to Dr Radhakrishnan and to the whole teaching fraternity, as without their immense contribution, no country can achieve the goals of progress and prosperity,'' he added.
