Jammu, Sep 5 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) fleet remained off the road on the third consecutive day today as its employees protested against non-payment of wages.

All the inter-state as well as intra-state bus services were put on halt following the indefinite strike by the various employees' unions of the SRTC in Jammu.

The employees, who were demanding release of their pending salaries, took out a massive protest rally through out the main city carrying placards and banners.

Deprived of salaries for the past four months, the employees finally announced an indefinite strike on September 3, and asked the state government to seal the firm.

''Despite all assurances, we have not been paid a single penny for the last four months,'' said Mr Pawan Sharma, president, SRTC Employees Association.

About 5,500 employees, running the Corporation in different wings, had not been paid, he disclosed.

Two of the employees of the SRTC have died of acute depression as they failed to meet the requirements of their families because of no salaries.

''The government should lock the Corporation and all the employees should be compensated,'' Mr Sharma said.

However, General Manager (Jammu) S S Jamwal told UNI that the demands of the SRTC employees had been forwarded to the concerned authorities, who have assured timely redressal of their issue.
