HP to make elementary education compulsory
Shimla, Sept 5 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhdra singh today said his government was considering a proposal to make elementary education in the state compulsory to ensure minimum elementary level eduction mandatory for the children.
While presiding over a function to mark the teachers day, the Chief Minister said the government would focus on qualitative educational improvement and more funds would be made available to achieve the objective.
He informed that the state government had earmarked a sum of Rs 1600 crore for educational activities during the current financial year.
He said a vast sum was being spent over construction of science blocks, playgrounds and modern educational facilities in the existing schools so that the students could avail the emerging educational facilities at their doorsteps.
The Chief Minister also emphasised the need for strengthening the inspection wing so that constant vigil was kept over the progress of implementation of the policies and programmes of the state government in all the eucational institutions.
