Heavy rains for next 48 hours in most parts of Bengal
Kolkata, Sep 5 (UNI) Kolkata today breathed a sigh of relief with temperatures coming down owing to rainfall in most parts of the state.
Deputy Director of Kolkata Meteorological department L R Meena said that rainfall is likely to continue for another 48 hours with widespread heavy to very heavy rainfall in most parts of the state, especially in Sub Himalayan sections of Jalpaiguri and the surrounding areas.
''Current conditions suggest that widespread rainfall will occur.
Fairly heavy rainfall will occur in isolated areas, especially in Sub-Himalyan areas and parts of neighbouring states of Jharkhand, Orissa and Bihar,'' he added.
The maximum temperature today was recorded at 28.9 degrees Celsius and the minimum at 26.3 degrees Celsius.
'' The temperatures have decreased due to heavy to fairly heavy rainfall in most parts of the city and the state,'' said Mr Meena.
In the last 24 hours, 4.6 mm rainfall was recorded. Maximum humidity level, however, remains as high as 97 per cent, while the minimum level was not much lower at 87 per cent.
The Met office has predicted that the next 24 hours will see the sky remaining generally cloudy with a few spells of widespread rain or thundershowers in most parts of the state. There will also be very heavy rainfall in certain isolated areas.
