Virudhunagar, Tamil Nadu Sep 5 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK(MDMK) supremo Vaiko today accused the central government for betraying the interests of Sri Lankan Tamils.

Talking to newspersons after chairing the party's district functionaries meeting here, he charged the central government for disallowing food materials and medicines arranged by Tamilar Desiya Iyakkam President P Nedumaran to the affected Tamils in Sri Lanka through the Red Cross.

Mr Vaiko alleged that the central government, was, however, supplying arms and ammunitions and radars to the Sinhalese Government. The Centre's action would be detrimental to the interests of Lankan Tamils, he added.

The MDMK leader said the India-US nuclear deal would affect the sovereignty of the country. The pact would prove to be a disaster to India's Independence and the centre for its survival, had formed a committee to sort out the differences with the Left parties, he added.

He said the five-nation naval exercises in Bay of Bengal would be detrimental to India's non-alignment policy followed by Jawaharlal Nehru and Indra Gandhi, among others. The UPA government would collapse in 2008, as the Left parties might withdraw its support, he added.

Mr Vaiko said the State police could not maintain law and order and they were losing the confidence of the people.

The MDMK leader alleged that the Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's son M K Azhagiri was meddling in government activities and was also involved in transfer of government officials in Southern districts.
