ETF clears proposals for three power projects in UP

Lucknow, Sept 5 (UNI) Keeping in mind the spiralling domestic demand and the proposed industrial growth in Uttar Pradesh in the coming years, the Energy Task Force (ETF) have cleared proposals to set up three new power plants in the state.

The proposals will now be tabled before the Cabinet for a final approval. According to sources, the Meja power project has been cleared by the ETF. The cost of the 1,320 MW project is estimated to be about Rs 5,500 crore. Two units of 660 MW will be set up as part of the project.

With the project for extending the Obra C power plant of 1,600 megawatts being cleared, two units of 800 megawatts each will be set up there.

The Meja project will be executed by the Uttar Pradesh Power Generation Corporation Ltd (UPPGCL) and the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) in the joint sector. For Obra C, the UPPGCLhas roped in public sector major Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL).

Meanwhile, addressing newspersons in Mathura on Monday, UP Power Minister Ramveer Upadhyay said ''to enhance the electricity production upto 10,000 mega watt, new thermal power production units would be installed.'' UP Chief Minister Mayawati would lay the foundation stone of a 500 mw power production unit in Harduaganj this month.

Besides, a 1,000 mega watt Anpara C project is being started shortly.
