Chandigarh, Sep 5 (UNI) The Haryana Government has, for the first time decided to introduce the concept of e-tendering to ensure more transparent and competitive bidding.

Stating this here today, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said it had been decided that Haryana Public Works (Building and Roads) Department would procure all contracts through e-tenders for recently sanctioned Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase VII projects. These projects of 1085 km long road length involved an investment of Rs 457 crore.

Mr Hooda, who also holds the charge of PWD (B&R) Department, while approving the proposal of e-tendering by the department said this decision would help in minimising tender related corruption as human interface would be eliminated to a great extent. Based on this experience, the procedure would be extended to other works of PWD(B&R) and other departments.

The Chief Minister said e-tendering would also facilitate contractors to submit their bids by using a computer and internet connection.

He said e-tendering was being implemented on immediate basis in association with Wipro Nex Tenders, which had successfully implemented e-tendering in the Governments of Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Chhattisgarh and also for agencies like Municipal Corporation of Delhi and National Thermal Power Corporation.

It may be recalled that only a week ago, the projects for which tenders were invited, had been cleared by the Government of India in a meeting of Empowered Committee of Ministry of Rural Development.
