Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra awards 100 MCD teachers on Teachers' Day
New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra today awarded 100 municipal teachers on the occasion of Teacher's Day for their meritorious service in the field of education.
The Mayor gave away the awards to 100 teachers, including 20 headmasters, 72 general teachers, five nursery teachers, one Physical Education teacher, one Music and one Arts teacher, at a function at Shah Auditorium, Raj Niwas Marg.
The award winners were honoured with a cash prize of Rs 5000, a commendation certificate and a memento.
Among special guests at the function, which was presided over by the Chairman of the Education Committee Prithvi Raj Sawhney were Deputy Mayor S S Bajwa, Chairman of the Standing Committee Vijender Gupta Leader of the House Subhash Arya, Leader of the Opposition in the MCD Jai Kishan Sharma and Municipal Commissioner Ashok Kumar Nigam.
The 100 teachers, out of a total strength of 18,000, were selected on the basis of teaching skills, results, achievements of their students like scholarship results, competitions, achievements of the teacher himself, community participation and the personality of the teacher.
This year, 66 of 100 award recipient teachers are women.
