Bhopal, Sep 5 (UNI) Expressing surprise over appointment of former Election Commissioner G V G Krishnamurthy and other outsiders in the executive council of the Bhopal-based Barkatullah University, former executive council member J P Dhanopia has alleged that Vice-Chancellor R S Sirohi was steeped into corruption.

Mr Dhanopia told reporters here today that Governor and Chancellor Balram Jakhar had appointed Dr Narendra Singh Rana, Professor Surendra Singh Yadav and Sheela Dhooldhoye besides Mr Krishnamurthy as members of the executive body of the university.

He alleged that most of them were friends or relatives of the Vice-Chancellor.

Pointing out that appointing people from outside state despite presence of several educationists in the state gave rise to suspicion, Mr Dhanopia said he had sent facts relating to corruption and irregularities by the Vice-Chancellor to the Chancellor by post so that appropriate action could be taken.

He threatened to approach the Lokayukta if appropriate action was not taken within 15 days.

Mr Dhanopia said he wanted that the university be free of corruption and that its educational standard was maintained.

He alleged that Prof Sirohi had committed several irregularities in his two-and-half year tenure. No action had been taken against him despite complaints, as he enjoyed patronage of the Chancellor.
