Chamling wants Sikkim Central University to be the best

Gangtok, Sep 5 (UNI) Chief Minister Pawan Chamling is determined to make the upcoming Sikkim Central University the best in the world, especially in the fields of environmental studies and biotechnology.

''I want that the Sikkim Central University should be the best in the world in the field of environment and biotechnology,'' said the chief minister during Teacher's Day celebration here today.

Eight teachers from different parts of the state were felicitated by the state government on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

Four schools also received certificates for playing active roles in the State Green Mission. Fifteen teachers also received commendation certificates.

Informing that the University will become functional from next year onwards and the process for selection of a suitable piece of land was on, Mr Chamling urged the teachers in the state to work in making the University a success.

''The government will provide infrastructure but its up to the teachers to develop capable students,'' he said.

The Chief Minister also said that state government had been giving thrust on quality education and accordingly allocates huge financial grants to the education sector.
