Chamling appeals to people to vote for Prashant Tamang

Gangtok, Sep 5 (UNI) The campaign in Sikkim-Darjeeling region to propel Prashant Tamang to the top in the popular contest 'Indian Idol' received a boost today with Sikkim's Chief Minister Pawan Chamling lending his support.

People should lend their wholehearted support to Prashant Tamang and make the mountains proud,'' said an official release cited Mr Chamling as saying.

Prashant, now popularly called Pahar Ka Gaurav(Pride of the hills) has reached the top three position in the talent hunt, thereby sparking an unprecedented wave of solidarity among the people of Sikkim and Darjeeling.

Prashant's new-found status as the voice of the hilly people was cemented when thousands of people gathered to welcome him in Darjeeling recently. He had come to Darjeeling for a one-day shoot along with the contest organisers.
