Arunachal honours teachers' on their day

Itanagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Arunachal Pradesh today honoured 30 teachers with state awards for their dedicated services on the occasion of Teachers' Day.

Altogether, 14 assistant teachers, 12 junior teachers and four senior teachers were awarded cash prizes of Rs 10,000 each, besides presenting them with a shawl and commendation certificate at a function organised at the state capital this morning.

Assembly Speaker Setong Sena, who presented the awards exhorted the teaching community to impart value-based education to students to suit the present day education scenario of the country.

''In this age of competitiveness, much had been ignored in Arunachal to develop the morale of education,'' he pointed out urging teachers to create awareness on topics in which students remained ignorant in the remote areas of the state.

Stating that education created fundamental traits of character among students, the Speaker urged the teachers to follow the footsteps of former Indian President Dr S Radhakrishnan and inculcate the spirit of 'learn to learn' among the students.

Speaking on the occasion as the guest of honour, State Water Resources Minister Tako Dabi, who was also a teacher, stressed on the need to build a strong coordination between teachers and students for make the state vibrant and strong.

State Education Minister Tatar Kipa, Education Secretary Hage Khoda were among the others who spoke on the occasion.
