Anjana Bhargav's collection at WIFW revives forgotten village life

New Delhi, Sep 5 (UNI) It was a collection that made the audience revisit the long forgotten times of the remote villages of India.

With her collection called 'revival', Anjana Bharghav succeeded in her attempt in creating a sense of vilage bonding, something people are leaving behind fast to catch up with the urban life.

Right from the set of the ramp to colours, fabrics and silhouettes, the designer's collection did justice to its name.

It started with the gold balinese lengha and continued with a variation of Indian as well as western and fusion silhouettes.

The main focus was on intricately embellished light weight cottons and hand woven fabrics which ranged from khadi to banarsi silk.

''I am driven by a strong sense of social commitment to take forward the rich craft heritage of India through my creations,'' said the designer who combines style with sensitivity for women recognised as much for their achievements as for their style.

The collection was a symphony of aristocratic elegant rich ensembles which evoked reminiscences of yesteryear.

''We are bringing to the forefront crafts and techniques of yesteryear,'' Anjana said talking about her collection which she says is very close to her heart.

The colour pallete spread from off-white to antique golden hues, whichy was gelled with warm earthy shades of sandy beiges, muddy greens and coppery browns.

Most elegant were the long white ankle length kurtas with smart golden balinese cutwork and lace at the sleeves and hemlines.

One saw rich dream-weaves from Banaras with golden metallic jaquards on traditional fuchsia pinks and light emerald greens ,maroon pleated chiffons with gray Bhagalpur cotton with coloured dusky golden motifs.

All outfits which were displayed reflected Anjana's strength regarding reviving antique hand-crafted decorative techniques and weaves. Surely she is off to a strong start for summer 2008.

With a keen sensitivity towards upholding the best in the traditional, the designer, trained under a French pattern expert, has worked silently and painstakingly over the years to keep alive and bring forth the best in Indian crafts, marrying it with her innate sense of style.

As for the future, Anjana is ready to launch 'Anjana Bhargav Spaces' for stylish interiors.
