23-year-old woman beaten to death for dowry

Moga, Sept 5 (UNI) A 23-year-old woman was beaten to death by her in-laws and husband here on Tuesday as she failed to meet their dowry demands.

According to the police, the victim, Rina Rani, was married to Satpal about six months back. But since her marriage her inlaws were harassing her and were demanding Rs 50,000 in cash as they wanted to start a shop.

About a week back they thrashed Rina and sent her to her home in faridkot. On Tuesday, Rina's mother, Jag Rani and her brother Kuldeep brought her to her in-laws' house. The inlaws and her husband again asked them for Rs 50,000. When she said that they are not in a position to meet their demand, her inlaws asked them to go out. After that they locked the door of the house and started beating Rina. After the beating the girl collapsed and later died.

Police rushed to the spot on the complaint of her mother and registered a case against husband, brother-in-law Dharampal, father-in-law Ram Saroop and mother-in-law Maya Devi.

Police had arrested the husband, father-in-law and mother-in-law.

However the brother-in-law managed to escape from the spot.
